Gather together everything you have... papers, photos, documents and family heirlooms.
Then check with your relatives to see if they have any family documents they are willing to share. Ask older relatives for info on anything they can remember about their grandparents, areas lived in, occupations etc..
Now you have made a start by collecting family records, the next step is to see what free information is available. We will work with you to show you where to get free info to keep your costs down.
There are two options, contact us privately or post questions to our Sheldon Surname Facebook Group.
We also provide a free tree checking service to those who have already made a start on their tree. It is very easy to get back to 1800-1900 and suddenly find you are tracing the wrong Sheldons.
You may get lucky and find that we already have some research on your particular Sheldon branch, if so, we will kindly share it with you, free of charge
We also offer a paid for service, to those wishing to have their family tree professionally researched.
Some Sheldons simply don't have the time or expertese to research. We offer to do this for you, at a small cost per hour, just enough to cover our costs, which includes web hosting and research subscriptions. "Mates Rates" - Sheldons helping Sheldons compared to Researchers that charge £25-£30 per hour
We have 30 years experience on the Sheldon name alone, having researched numerous Sheldon branches, which helps to cut down on the research time.
Are your ancestrors from America ? Then contact our American cousins who have a large database of Sheldons in the USA.
Craig Sheldon's website lists Sheldon people and places named Sheldon
Many of the American Sheldons originate from the Derbyshire Sheldons from Bakewell. Are all Sheldons related in some way ? or are there 3 or 4 different Sheldon groups. We are trying to find DNA links between other Sheldon areas such as Devon and the West Midlands area. We are looking for Sheldon males that can prove their linage back to 1800, to be tested. There may be some funding available towards the cost of the test.
The USA Sheldons are co-ordinating the research and a number of English and American Sheldons have been tested already
